Drug Uses

Aciphex is used to treat conditions involving excessive stomach acid production, such as ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

How Taken

Aciphex need to be taken once daily for four to eight weeks. It is formulated in delayed-release, enteric-coated tablets. Each dose need to be flushed with full glass of water. Tablets should be swallowed whole, as they are specially formulated to release slowly in your body.

Warnings/Precautions

Your doctor need to be notified if you are using any of those medications: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral), before starting treatment with Aciphex. Other drugs, not listed above may also interact with Aciphex. You should notify your doctor of any prescription and non-prescription medicines you are using.

Missed Dose

Missed dose may be taken as soon as you remember about it, however if it's about time for next dose then you should not double up the dose to catch up with the schedule.

Possible Side Effects

Aciphex has rare serious side effects. However if you happen to experience allergic reaction to Aciphex you should seek emergency medical attention. Aciphex may also cause some less serious side effects, such as headache, upset stomach or diarrhea, insomnia, nervousness, a rash or itching. Side effects that are not listed above may also occur. If they become frequent or bothersome you should speak with your doctor.

Storage

Aciphex should be kept at room temperature, in a dry place out of the reach of children.

Overdose

Emergency medical attention is needed when suspecting overdose of Aciphex, as it's symptoms are not known.

More Information

Aciphex has no restrictions to food, beverages, or activities, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. As your symptoms may improve before your condition is fully treated you should not stop taking Aciphex.
