Drug Uses
Aldactone is a treatment for swelling and high blood pressure. It is also used to treat potassium deficiency and particular hormonal disorders. It works by reducing the amount of fluids in your body without causing loss of potassium.
How Taken
Aldactone is to be taken once daily with a breakfast or twice - with breakfast and lunch. Directions given by doctor should be followed carefully, and Aldactone shouldn't be stopped using without consultation with your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Kidney or liver diseases, diabetes, high levels of potassium in blood need to be reported to doctor before starting treatment with Aldactone. Aldactone is known to cause harm to an unborn baby, so it is not safe to treat with this medication while pregnant, or when planning to become pregnant during treatment. It's not known if Aldactone passes into breast milk, so if you are breast feeding then you should consult with your doctor.
Missed Dose
Missed dose may be taken as soon as you remember about it, however if it's about time for next dose then you should not double up the dose to catch up with the schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Aldactone may cause allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, fatigue, confusion, weakness, numbness, decreased urination, or tingling caused by high levels of potassium in your blood. In such cases you should stop taking Aldactone and notify your doctor. Unusual headaches or dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, or a decrease in appetite, bloating, muscle cramps or lowering of the voice may also occur as a side effect, and your doctor also needs to be notified about it and any other side effects not mentioned here.
Storage
Aldactone should be kept in the container it came in, at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Expired medicine should be properly disposed.
Overdose
Overdosage of Aldactone may result in drowsiness, mental confusion, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or diarrhea. Emergency medical attention is needed.
More Information
Combination of Aldactone with other medicines is used to treat precocious puberty or myasthenia gravis, and abnormal facial hair in certain female patients.
