Drug Uses
Antivert is an antihistamine treatment blocking the effects of naturally occurring chemical histamine. Antivert is used to treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. It may also be helpful in treating vertigo, and for other purposes.
How Taken
Antivert is formulated as a regular and a chewable tablet and a capsule. It should be taken one hour before travel, and dosed every 24 hours if needed. If experiencing dizziness caused by an ear condition you should consult your doctor. The chewable tablets may be chewed or swallowed whole.
Warnings/Precautions
Antivert may eventually cause drowsiness, and as such it shouldn't be used when driving, operating heavy machinery or doing anything else that could be dangerous. This medicine will increase the effects of alcohol and antidepressants. It is not known if this medicine passes into breast milk, so you should consult with your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
Due to Antivert dosage missed dose is not a problem. If you are taking Antivert on a regular basis you should take a missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it's time for next dose. In that case take next dose as scheduled. You shouldn't double dose this medication.
Possible Side Effects
Only reason to stop taking Antivert is an allergic reaction. In such case you should seek emergency medical attention. Other less serious side effects include drowsiness or dizziness, a dry mouth which may be relieved by sugarless gum, ice chips or other products if bothersome, blurred vision, nervousness, insomnia or constipation. If those effects become bothersome or any other side effects not mentioned here arise you should consult with your doctor.
Storage
Antivert should be stored in a tight, light resistant container, and stored at controlled temperature of 15°-30°C (59°-86° F).
Overdose
Antivert overdose symptoms may include unusual excitability, drowsiness, hallucinations, very slow or shallow breathing, and seizures. When suspecting overdose you should immediately contact local poison control center or emergency room.
More Information
Using Antivert may increase drowsiness effect of alcohol and other drugs, such as antidepressants, antihistamines, sedatives, pain relievers, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants. Your doctor need to know about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines that you are taking, and do not take any medicine without first talking to your doctor.
