Drug Uses
Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant medicament used to relieve the pain and muscle stiffness.
How Taken
Carisoprodol is formulated as a 350 mg tablet to be taken by mouth, usually three times a day and before bedtime. It's recommended to take Carisoprodol with food or milk to decrease the chances of stomach upset. Carisoprodol is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Warnings/Precautions
If you have acute intermittent porphyria you should not use Carisoprodol. If you have kidney or liver disease you should notify your doctor about it. It is not known if this medication can harm an unborn baby, or is it passes into breast milk, so if you are pregnant or breast feeding you should consult Carisoprodol therapy with your doctor. This medication shouldn't be used by children under 12 years of age.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Carisoprodol take it as soon as remembered, if it's not longer than an hour. If you do not remember until later you should skip the missed dose and resume your usual schedule. You shouldn't double your dose to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
This medication can cause allergic or idiosyncratic reaction in the first to fourth dose in patients that haven't taken this drug previously. Carisoprodol may cause dizziness, vertigo, ataxia, tremor, agitation, irritability, headache, depressive reactions, syncope, and insomnia. Less serious effects include skin rash, erythema multiforme, pruritus, eosinophilia, and fixed drug eruption with cross reaction to meprobamate. Severe reactions have been manifested by asthmatic episodes, fever, weakness, dizziness, angioneurotic edema, smarting eyes, hypotension, and anaphylactoid shock. You should notify your doctor about any side effects encountered.
Storage
Carisoprodol should be dispensed in a tight containers and stored at controlled room temperature 15°-30°C (59°-86°F).
Overdose
Overdose symptoms include low blood pressure, decreased breathing and unconsciousness. Emergency medical attention is needed.
More Information
Due to possibility to cause dizziness or drowsiness while using Carisoprodol caution should be applied while driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Using of alcohol may increase dizziness and drowsiness effects.
