Drug Uses
Clarinex is an antihistamine for relieving the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis). Clarinex contains a long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor histamine antagonist activity.
How Taken
Clarinex is formulated in tables to be taken by mouth. It can be taken with or without food, usually once daily. Directions on the prescription label should be followed carefully, any part non understandable should be consulted with doctor or pharmacist. Clarinex is to be taken exactly as directed, not more or less or more often that it was prescribed by your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Your doctor need to be notified of any past allergic reactions to antihistamine, kidney or liver disease. In such cases dosage adjustment or special monitoring may be required during treatment. FDA categorized Clarinex as C, which means that it's unknown if it can harm unborn baby. If you are pregnant or may become pregnant during treatment you should let your doctor know. Clarinex is passed into breast milk, and may affect an infant. If you are breast-feeding you should let your doctor know about it.
Missed Dose
When dose is missed, Clarinex should be used as soon as you remember. When the time to next dose is near missed dose should be skipped and usual dosing should be resumed. It's forbidden to take twice the dose.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects cannot be anticipated. You should inform your doctor immediately if any side effect develops or change in intensity. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Clarinex. Common side effects include: dry mouth, fatigue, sleepiness, sore throat. Other less common side effect are: dizziness, dry throat, flu-like symptoms, muscle pain, nausea. In rare cases there can be: acute allergic reaction, hives, itching, rapid heartbeat, rash, shortness of breath or swelling.
Storage
Clarinex can be stored at room temperature, in the container it came in, tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
Overdose
Effects of overdosing Clarinex are little known, but any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. When suspecting overdose you should contact your doctor immediately. Known overdose symptoms include: rapid heartbeat, sleepiness.
More Information
Caution should be applied when driving, operating heavy machinery or performing other hazardous activities. Clarinex may eventually cause dizziness or drowsiness. When experiencing these you should avoid performing such activities.
