Drug Uses

Denavir is an antiviral medication used to treat cold sores. It may also be used for some other purposes, not listed here.

How Taken

Denavir need to be applied every two hours during waking hours for four days a week with an applicator or finger. Wash your hands after application to prevent contacting this medicine with your eyes or other sensitive areas, which may distribute the virus to other parts of your body.

Warnings/Precautions

Denavir is intended to be used externally. Do not apply Denavir inside mouth, nose, genital or rectal areas. Denavir shouldn't harm an unborn baby, however it is recommended to consult with your doctor if you are pregnant during Denavir treatment. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk, so if you are breast feeding you also should consult with your doctor.

Missed Dose

Missed dose can be applied as soon as remembered, however if it's about time for next dose it should be skipped. Doses shouldn't be doubled.

Possible Side Effects

If you use Denavir you may experience less serious side effects, such as headache, local numbness or tingling where the cream is applied, changes in taste, rash, irritation at the place where Denavir was applied. If you experience such effects or any effect not listed above you should consult your doctor.

Storage

Denavir need to be stored in a dark and dry place at temperatures of 20°-25°C (68°-77°).

Overdose

Contact an poison control center or emergency room when digested the cream, however it shouldn't cause serious overdose effects.

More Information

Denavir shouldn't be taken along with other topical medicaments, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. No other medicines has been reported to interact with Denavir.
