Drug Uses

Diflucan is a treat for vaginal yeast infections caused by Candida, oropharyngeal or esophageal candidiasis and cryptococcal meningitis. Diflucan is also a medication used to decrease the incidence of candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation with cytotoxic chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

How Taken

Diflucan is usually taken once a day, either in a form of tablet or liquid. This medication needs to be taken exactly as prescribed. Liquid form need to be shaken well before each use.

Warnings/Precautions

If you are taking Propulsid you should not take Diflucan, as it may cause serious or even fatal heart problems. If you have any kidney disease, or take other medicines you should notify your doctor. If you are pregnant, or nursing a baby you should consult your doctor, as Diflucan passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose

Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered, unless it's about time for next dose. If so next scheduled dose should be taken, and doses shouldn't be doubled to catch up.

Possible Side Effects

If you experience an allergic reaction, liver damage or a rash you should stop taking Diflucan, and consult with your doctor. If you experience less serious side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, itching or any other side effect not mentioned here, and which is bothersome or unusual you should notify your doctor.

Storage

Diflucan should be protected from freezing. Tablets need to be stored under the temperature of 30°C (86°F). Diflucan comes in Viaflex plus plastic containers with diluents of either sodium chloride and dextrose. Those should be stored in temperatures between 5 and 25°C (41 and 77°F). Brief exposure to temperatures of 40°C (104°F) are not harmful to product.

Overdose

If experiencing symptoms of overdose such as confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, decreased movement, decreased breathing, tearing eyes, drooling, urinary incontinence or seizures you should seek emergency medical attention. Serious overdose of Diflucan may cause death.

More Information

Alcohol mixed with Diflucan can greatly damage the liver, and as such should be avoided. Diflucan may also cause dizziness, so caution should be applied when driving or performing other hazardous activities.
