Drug Uses
Elidel is a treatment for eczema, it is meant to be topically put on affected places of skin. It is for skin use only. It shouldn't be applied to children younger than two years. It may be used for short or intermittent treatments. It can be used on all affected skin regions, including neck and face.
How Taken
Thin layer of Elidel should be applied to the affected region twice a day and rubbed in completely. It should be used as long as the signs persist. If symptoms won't go after six weeks of treatment the patient needs to be re-evaluated.
Warnings/Precautions
If you have Netherton's syndrome (congenial skin disorder), you shouldn't use Elidel. You should notify your doctor if you have a skin infection, a disease of the immune system or are using any other type of skin product. It is not known if Elidel can harm an unborn baby or if it passes into breast milk, so if you are pregnant or breast feeding you need to consult your doctor before starting treatment. Elidel is not intended to use with children under two years old.
Missed Dose
Missed dose should be applied as soon as remembered, unless it's about time for next dose. If so next scheduled dose should be applied, and doses shouldn't be doubled to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
During the first few days of application it may happen that you will feel burning or feeling of warmth in the sites of application. However if such feeling occurs for more than one week you should consult your doctor. Other less serious common side effects include headache, and while using Elidel on a long term basis you may experience common cold/stuffy nose, influenza, sore throat, fever, viral infection, and cough. Eventually you may experience herpes skin infections, such as cold sores, chicken pox, or shingles, warts, or swollen lymph nodes.
Storage
Elidel shouldn't be left to froze, it should be stored at temperatures of 15-30°C (59-86°F).
Overdose
It's not known what effects may cause overdosing of Elidel. However if ingested medical help may be needed.
More Information
While using Elidel you should avoid sunlight, tanning or any sources of UVA or UVB light. If you need to be outdoors after applying Elided you should consult your doctor about sun protection. Do not apply other skin products on the areas treated with Elidel, unless told so by your doctor.
