Drug Uses
Gris-PEG is a treat for specific ringworm infections, such as athlete's foot, barber's itch, body ringworm, groin and thigh ringworm, nails ringworm, scalp ringworm. Your doctor may need to perform some tests, since Gris-PEG is a treatment for certain types of fungal infection.
How Taken
Adult dosage usually is 330 mg daily, either in a single dose or in divided amounts, and children 3,3 mg of Gris-PEG per pound of body weight. However accurate diagnosis is needed to specify required dosage in individual cases.
Warnings/Precautions
You should avoid exposure to natural or artificial sunlight, because of increased light sensitiveness caused by Gris-PEG. If you develop lupus erythematosus or a lupus-like condition during treatment you should notify your doctor. Regular tests may be needed when treating with Gris-PEG for a longer time, since Gris-PEG has not yet been proven perfectly safe. This medicament may eventually decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills, so additional protection is needed. If you plan to become a father you should wait at least six months after finishing therapy with Gris-PEG. Women should avoid getting pregnant while taking this medicine.
Missed Dose
Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered, unless it's about time for next dose. If so next scheduled dose should be taken, and doses shouldn't be doubled to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
Gris-PEG is known to cause hypersensitivity type side effects, such as skin rashes, urticaria, erythema multiform-like drug reactions, and rarely, angioneurotic edema. Occasionally treatment with Gris-PEG may cause oral thrush, nausea, vomiting, epigastria distress, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, mental confusion, and impairment of performance of routine activities. If it happens that granulocytopenia occurs then you should stop taking the drug. However these effects may occur when taking this drug for a long time.
Storage
Gris-PEG tablets should be stored in tight, light resistant containers, at temperatures of 15-30°C (59-86°F).
Overdose
When suspecting overdose of Gris-PEG you should immediately seek emergency medical treatment.
More Information
You shouldn't mix alcohol with Gris-PEG, as it may increase it's effects. Also effect of other drugs may be increased, decreased or altered. Special attention and consultations with your doctor are needed when taking such drugs as: blood-thinning drugs (Coumadin and alike), Barbiturates or oral contraceptives.
