Drug Uses
Naprosyn is a medication for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, juvenile arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendonitis and bursitis, and acute gout. It is also used to relief of mild to moderate pain, and for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. Suspension of Naprosyn is recommended for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in order to obtain the maximum dosage flexibility based on the patient's weight.
How Taken
Usual dosage varies accordingly to condition. For gout it should be taken every eight hours, for arthritis it should be taken once a day when using long release tablet or every six hours with regular tablet, and arthritis is cured by taking the tablet twice daily. To prevent stomach upsets Naprosyn may be taken with food or milk.
Warnings/Precautions
If you have an allergy to aspirin or any other NSAIDs, have an ulcer or bleeding in your stomach, drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day, have liver disease, Have kidney disease, have a coagulation disorder, have congestive heart failure, have fluid retention, have heart disease, or have high blood pressure you should notify your doctor about it. Naprosyn shouldn't be taken in the third trimester of pregnancy, due to a harm it may cause to an unborn children. This medication passes into breast milk, so if you are breast feeding you should notify your doctor about it.
Missed Dose
Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered, unless it's about time for next dose when Naprosyn is taken on a regular schedule. If taking Naprosyn when needed you may take the missed dose if needed and then wait till next scheduled dose is needed.
Possible Side Effects
Ff you experience blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools you should notify your doctor, as it may indicate that you have some damage to stomach or intestines, which could be dangerous. If experiencing any of the following serious side effects, such as allergic reaction muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling, ulcers in the mouth, rapid weight gain, seizures, decreased hearing or ringing in the ears, yellowing of your skin or eyes, or abdominal cramping, heartburn, or indigestion you should stop taking Naprosyn and notify your doctor. Less serious side effects, such as dizziness or headache, nausea, diarrhea, or constipation, depression, fatigue or weakness, dry mouth or irregular menstrual periods you should notify your doctor. Other side effects not listed above may also occur. If they become disturbing, then you should notify your doctor about them as well.
Storage
Naprosyn suspension should be stored at room temperature, excessive heat, above 40°C (104°F) should be avoided. Naprosyn should be stored in a light resistant container, away from the reach of children.
Overdose
Overdosage symptoms include drowsiness, heartburn, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, seizures. If you suspect overdose you should consult a doctor, an emergency room, or a poison control for advice.
More Information
As Naprosyn may increase sun sensitivity prolonged exposure should be avoided. Alcohol beverages should also be avoided, as mixed with Naprosyn may increase the risk of dangerous stomach bleeding. And as Naprosyn may cause dizziness then driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided also.
