Drug Uses

Patanol is a prescription medication, for stopping allergies symptoms in daily life. Panatol is a medication to stop eye itching, it's formulated as liquid drops.

How Taken

Recommended dosage is one drop in each affected eye twice daily, with 6 to 8 hours interval.

Warnings/Precautions

Before starting treatment your doctor need to be notified of any viral, bacterial or fungal infections, because of drug absorption, which may affect ability to fight off infections. FDA category for Patanol is C, which means that it's not known if it could harm an unborn baby. When breast feeding consultation with doctor is required, since it's not known whether Patanol passes into breast milk. Patanol shouldn't be applied to children under 3 years of age.

Missed Dose

Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered.

Possible Side Effects

Patanol doesn't have serious side effects. Only side effect that may occur is allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing or swelling. Consult your doctor when experiencing irritation or redness of eyes, stuffed nose, change or loss of taste, or any other bothersome or continuous side effects not mentioned above.

Storage

Patanol should be stored at 39°F to 86°F (4°C to 30°C).

Overdose

When suspecting overdose of Patanol you should seek advice in emergency room or poison control center. If accidentally swallowed the drops should be neutralized by drinking plenty of fluid and calling emergency for advice.

More Information

Dropper shouldn't be touched against any surface, including eyes and hands. When contaminated it could cause an infection to eye. Due to contained preservative (benzalkonium chloride), contact lenses should be taken off when applying medication. They can be reinserted about 15 minutes after a dose. Patanol shouldn't be mixed with other eye drops, unless your doctor approves them.
