Drug Uses
Paxil is a member of newer class of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Paxil helps maintain balance of serotonin in the brain.
How Taken
Paxil may be taken with or without food once a day. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by doctor. You shouldn't stop using Paxil suddenly, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time. Paxil has to be taken regularly for a few weeks before all of it's benefits are felt.
Warnings/Precautions
Liver or kidney disease, seizures, epilepsy or maniac disorder has to be reported to your doctor before starting treatment with Paxil, because you may need a dose adjustment. FDA category C for Paxil states that it is not known if it harms an unborn baby, so pregnancy should be reported to your doctor before starting treatment. Paxil passes to breast milk, so if you are breast feeding a baby you should first consult your doctor.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose you can take one as soon as you remember about it. If it's almost time for next dose you should resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not double-dose to catch up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor or seek medical emergency treatment when experiencing allergic reaction irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, unusual bleeding or bruising. It's more likely that less serious side effects occur, such as nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth or changes in appetite. You should also consult your doctor when experiencing other bothersome side effects not mentioned here.
Storage
Paxil should be stored in controlled temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F).
Overdose
When overdose of Paxil occurs it's symptoms include nausea, vomiting, tremor, seizures, drowsiness, hyperactivity and enlarged pupils. You should immediately seek medical attention.
More Information
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Paxil may cause dizziness or drowsiness, therefore driving, operating heavy machinery or other hazardous activities should be avoided. Using alcohol may increase effects of drowsiness and dizziness caused by Paxil.
