Drug Uses
Prilosec is a treatment to various acid-related problems with stomach and esophagus, such as heartburn or ulcers. It may be prescribed along with certain antibiotics.
How Taken
Prilosec is formulated as long acting 20mg tablet, taken once a day, every 24 hours for 14 days, before meals. You shouldn't take it for more than 14 days or repeat a 14-day course more often than every 4 months unless directed by a doctor. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet.
Warnings/Precautions
Your doctor need to be notified about any liver problems, other stomach problems or allergies. During pregnancy this medication can be used only while clearly needed. Breast feeding while taking this drug is not recommended since it's not known if it passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as it is possible. If it's time for your next scheduled dose you should skip the missing one. Do not double up a dose.
Possible Side Effects
If experiencing long lasting symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, stomachache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache, or dizziness the first few days as your body adjusts to it you should notify your doctor. Unlikely but tell your doctor If you develop back or joint pain, nervousness, sleep disturbances, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, change in amount of urine or vision changes, which is unlikely, but can eventually occur you should notify your doctor as well. Prilosec may rarely cause loss of hair, ringing in the ears, swelling of the stomach or fatigue. If you happen to have an allergic reaction to Prilosec you should seek immediate medical attention. Allergic reaction symptoms include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Storage
Prilosec need to be stored at room temperature between 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F) in a dark and dry place.
Overdose
Prilosec overdose symptoms include confusion, unusual sweating, blurred vision, unusually fast heartbeat, seizures. If suspecting overdose contact local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

If you have only occasional heartburn or want immediate relief of heartburn then Prilosec is not a medicament for you. Inform your doctor about any prescription and nonprescription medication you use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor approval.
