Drug Uses
Skelaxin is a treatment to muscle pains and stiffness caused by muscle injuries, strains, sprains and spasms.
How Taken
Skelaxin need to be taken exactly as prescribed. Usual dose for adults and children over 12 years is 800 mg (two tablets) three to four times a day. To avoid stomach upset Skelaxin may be taken with food.
Warnings/Precautions
If you have acute intermittent porphyria you shouldn't take Skelaxin. Any liver disease need to be notified to doctor before treatment begins. It's not known if Skelaxin can harm an unborn baby or if it passes into breast milk, so if you are pregnant or breast feeding you should also notify your doctor. Skelaxin shouldn't be taken by children under 12 years old.
Missed Dose
Missed dose of Skelaxin may be taken up to one hour after missed schedule. Otherwise you should miss it and resume your normal dosing. Skelaxin dosage may not be doubled to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
Skelaxin may eventually cause nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and nervousness or "irritability", hypersensitivity reactions, characterized by a light rash with or without pruritus, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia or jaundice.
Storage
Skelaxin is to be stored in a dark and dry place in temperatures varying between 15 to 30°C (59 and 86°F).
Overdose
Overdose symptoms include drowsiness and unconsciousness. If suspecting overdose contact immediately local poison control center or emergency room.
More Information
Since Skelaxin may cause drowsiness or dizziness caution should be applied when driving, operating heavy machinery or performing other hazardous activities. Alcohol may increase the effects of drowsiness and dizziness.
