Drug Uses
Tetracycline is a medicament used for treatment and prevention of bacterial infections.
How Taken
Usual dosage varies, but in general daily dose is 1 to 2 g. Tetracycline is meant to be used exactly as doctor directed. Therapy should continue up to 48 hours after passing of infection symptoms.
Warnings/Precautions
Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines should be reported to your doctor. Using of this medicament while absence of bacterial infection may result in developping of drug resistant bacteria.
Missed Dose
If you miss doses or doesn't complete full treatment cycle you may decrease effectiveness of this medicament and develop a resistance to this type of drugs in bacteria.
Possible Side Effects
This drug may cause some side effects such as anorexia, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, sore throat, glossitis, black hairy tongue, dysphagia, hoarseness, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions in the anogenital region.
Storage
Tetracycline should be stored at room temperature, away from the reach of children, and dispensed in tight, light resistant containers.
Overdose
Emergency medical attention is required when suspecting overdosage.
More Information
When therapy with tetracycline is meant to last long you should perform periodic laboratory evaluation of organ system function, including renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic systems.
