Drug Uses
Transderm Scop is used for relieving in motion sickness effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Transderm Scop decreases the secretion of fluids, slows the stomach and intestine, and dilates the pupils.
How Taken
Transderm Scop is formulated as a patch to be placed behind your ear. One patch should be applied to a clean, dry, hairless area. Patch should be applied at least four hours before it's effect will become apparent. Each patch lasts for three days. After this term the patch need to be removed, wrapped in paper or tissue and thrown away. You should wash your hands and the area where the patch was located to remove any traces of Transderm Scop. If there's need for another patch it may be placed behind the other ear.
Warnings/Precautions
You need to inform your doctor about any kidney or liver disease, an enlarged prostate, difficulty urinating, bladder problems, or glaucoma. Accordingly to FDA category C for Transderm Scop it is unknown if it can harm an unborn baby. It is also not known if it passes into breast milk, so if you are pregnant, or breast feeding you should consult using Transderm Scop with your doctor. This medication is not intended for children, because of their less tolerance of scopolamine.
Missed Dose
If you happen to miss a dose you should remove the old patch and apply a new patch to the same area behind the other ear. Don't double the dose of Transderm Scop.
Possible Side Effects
You should stop using Transderm Scop when experiencing allergic reaction. Less serious side effects doesn't require you to stop using this treatment. Following side effects may occur: drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; restlessness, excitation, nervousness, or insomnia, blurred vision, dizziness, decreased appetite, nausea, or vomiting, difficulty urinating or an irregular or fast heartbeat. Be aware that when you stop using Transderm Scop after using it for more than three days you probably will encounter nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, and poor coordination. Eventually other side effects not mentioned above may occur. You should consult your doctor if those side effects become bothersome.
Storage
Transderm Scop should be stored at temperatures varying within 20°C - 25°C (68°F - 77°F).
Overdose
Transderm Scop overdose symptoms include drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, excitability, seizures or convulsions, hallucinations, and death. You should seek emergency medical help when suspecting overdose.
More Information
Since Transderm Scop can cause dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision caution should be applied when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Additionally using of alcohol while under influence of Transderm Scop may increase the drowsiness and dizziness effects.
