Drug Uses
Xenical is used in certain cases of obese to help lose weight and maintain weight loss. It works by blocking some of the fat consumed from being adsorbed. Xenical should be used with reduced calorie diet. Weight management effects of this medication last only as long as treatment continues.
How Taken
Xenical is usually taken three times a day with food. Xenical need to be taken exactly as prescribed. This medication need to be taken with meals. Xenical should also be taken with carefully constructed diet.
Warnings/Precautions
if you have a chronic malabsorption syndrome, gallbladder problems, kidney stones, diabetes, anorexia or bulimia or take any other weight-loss medicine you should consult your doctor before starting treatment with Xenical. Due to FDA category of Xenical you should consult your doctor if you are/plan to become pregnant or breast feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose you should resume taking Xenical from next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose, as this won't help you lose weight.
Possible Side Effects
If you experience allergic reaction you should stop taking Xenical and seek emergency medical help. You may experience less serious side effects, such as oily spotting, gas with discharge, an urgent need to go to the bathroom, oily or fatty stools, an oily discharge, an increased number of bowel movements, an inability to control bowel movements, or orange or brown colored oil in your stool. These are normal effects of taking Xenical, and indicate that it is working. These symptoms usually go away as you continue treatment and keep your diet. Occasionally other side effects not mentioned above may also occur. If they are unusual or bothersome you should notify your doctor.
Storage
Xenical need to be stored in a tightly closed container away from the reach of children. This medication should be kept in a dry place at normal room temperature. Expired medication should be thrown away.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms of Xenical are not known, and when suspecting overdose you need to seek emergency medical help
More Information
Xenical may decrease absorption of some vitamins, so you may require to take some multivitamin, especially containing vitamin D, E, K and beta-carotene as an addition to the treatment and diet. The vitamin need to be taken at least two hours before Xenical dose.
