Drug Uses
Zoloft is a prescription treatment for depressive states, panic disorders, OCD, PTSD in adults. It is also used to treat OCD in children in ages between 6 and 12 and adolescents between ages of 12 and 17.
How Taken
Zoloft may be taken with or without food, once daily.. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by doctor. You shouldn't stop using Zoloft suddenly, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time. Zoloft has to be taken regularly for a few weeks before all of it's benefits are felt.
Warnings/Precautions
Your doctor need to be notified if you had a history of seizures, liver or kidney disease, suffering from mania or suicidal thoughts. FDA categorized Zoloft in category C, which means that it is not known if it may cause a harm to unborn baby. Doctor consultations are needed if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Zoloft passes into breast milk, so breast feeding is not recommended, if you are breast feeding you should notify your doctor about it.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose you can take one as soon as you remember about it. If it's almost time for next dose you should resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not double-dose to catch up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Zoloft may cause eventual allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, chills or fever. When experiencing such side effects you should notify your doctor. Eventually less serious side effects may occur, such as: headache, tremor, nervousness, or anxiety, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight, sleepiness or insomnia, or decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. When experiencing those you should notify your doctor, and also when experiencing other side effects, not mentioned above.
Storage
Zoloft should be stored at 25°C (77°F), with excursions permitted between 15° - 30°C (59° - 86°F).
Overdose
Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, tremor, seizures, agitation, drowsiness, hyperactivity, and enlarged pupils. You should seek emergency medical attention when suspecting overdose.
More Information
Zoloft may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided. Alcohol usage during treatment may increase effects of drowsiness and dizziness.
