Drug Uses

Zyrtec is an antihistamine medication, preventing sneezing, leaking nose, itching or watering eyes and other allergic symptoms.. Zyrtec is used with allergies and hives treatment.

How Taken

Zyrtec is formulated in tablets to take by mouth. It should be taken when allergy symptoms arise, exactly as defined by your doctor or pharmacist. Dose shouldn't be enlarged, and Zyrtec shouldn't be taken more often than prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions

Your doctor need to be notified of any kidney or liver disease before starting treatment with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is categorized by FDA to B category, which means that it's unlikely that it will harm an unborn baby. Zyrtec is transported into breast milk, and may affect a nursing baby. If you are over 60 years of age then you may experience increased side effects, and so you may need lower dose.

Missed Dose

When forgotten to take the pill at specified time you shouldn't take extra one to catch up. Wait till next time and continue to use Zyrtec normally. Do not take more tablets or more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Zyrtec doesn't have serious side effects. The only side effect that require emergency medical attention is an allergic reaction to Zyrtec or one of it's components. Speak with your doctor if you experience sneezing after application, bleeding from the nostrils, yeast infection, nausea, cough, asthma symptoms, or other unusual or bothersome side effects.

Storage

Zyrtec should be stored at 15 to 30°C (59-86°F), perfect temperature for storage is 20-25°C (68-77°F).

Overdose

Symptoms of Zyrtec overdose include extreme drowsiness, confusion and weakness. You should seek emergency medical attention when experiencing those.

More Information

Zyrtec may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so you should avoid driving, using heavy equipment or performing other hazardous activities. Basically Zyrtec should not be mixed with alcohol.
